Refreshing gift for garden party

From the Telegraph & Argus, first published Friday 8th Jul 2005.

A packed programme of activities is lined up for the Manorlands garden party on Sunday. The annual event, in the grounds of the Oxenhope hospice, is in its 29th year. Last year it raised a staggering £20,000.

Attractions at this year's party will include over 40 stalls, vintage cars, reflexology, Barclays Bank tombola, Honda Goldwing rides provided by Colin Appleyards, of Keighley, a fire engine, beat the goalie competition and a bouncy castle. Entertainment on the main stage includes for the first time the Jai Freestyle Muay Thai Boxing Club and Haworth Brass Band. And returning due to popular demand are the Samara belly dancers, Gordon Wilson's School of Dance and the Stevie B Magic Show.

Refreshments, which will include a barbecue, hot dogs, cakes, sandwiches, hot and cold drinks and ice cream, have all been donated by United Co-op. Manorlands fundraiser Jo Shepheard said: "Our refreshment stalls are busy all day long and take a staggering amount of money. To have this amount donated is a massive help to ensure we make even more profit for Manorlands."

Compere is once again Michael Walton and Keighley MP Ann Cryer is opening the event at 1.30pm.

Fundraiser Sally Owthwaite paid tribute to all the volunteers involved. She said: "The success behind the Sue Ryder Care Manorlands hospice garden party is due to so many kind volunteers and supporters, who organise stalls and donate prizes or items to sell."

Admission and car parking is free. For further information contact Sally Owthwaite on 01535 640431 or Jodie Shepherd on 01535 640430.
