Keighley moved in to fifth place in the Second Division of the Bradford League after defeating Lightcliffe at the weekend, albeit in not the most convincing fashion.
Lightcliffe batted first and after the loss of an early wicket the innings proceeded at a steady pace with a second wicket stand of 67. The deadlock was broken after which the Lightcliffe batsmen never really dominated the Keighley attack but progressed to a respectable 158 in their 50 overs.
The Keighley bowling line up has looked more potent since the return of skipper Steve Reape which was confirmed on Saturday with figures of 4-32 off his 18 overs. The captain was backed up by the wiley off-spin of Richard Robinson claiming 3-38.
In response to the Lightcliffe total, run rate was never an issue but wickets were falling just as Keighley threatened to dominate. The top order was held together by Matthew Bottomley with a solid 33 but it was the experience of Richard Robinson that saw Keighley home with a disciplined knock of 60 not out that ensured the points remained at Lawkholme Lane.
Saturday sees an away trip to Yeadon. Although the home side are in the lower reaches of the division, Yeadon were a top flight team last season and Keighley cannot take anything for granted.
