Gareth Wiles, who celebrates his 18th birthday tomorrow, was in scintillating form for Embassy `A' in the Keighley & District Table Tennis League First Division when the Bingley team played host to Red Rose `B'. Wiles gave himself the perfect birthday present with three faultless wins and even Rose's top player Peter Wood was blown away by the Wiles whirlwind, losing 11-3, 11-7, 11-8 together with team mates Michael Wrigley 11-7, 11-5, 11-5 and David Ayrton 11-8, 11-9, 11-6. Tony Boyd gave good support with defeats of Michael Wrigley and Peter Wood 6-11, 7-11, 11-3, 11-7, 11-7. Ziggy Cwiklinski added another 11-7, 11-9, 10-12, 8-11, 11-4 against Wrigley and a doubles win for Wiles and Boyd 12-10, 11-6, 12-10 against Wood and Ayrton wrapped it up for Embassy to move them above their opponents into second spot. Consolation for the Lancastrians came from a couple of wins for Ayrton, including the impressive defeat of Boyd 11-8, 3-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-3 and a win for Wood against Cwiklinski.  more...
